Michael Frederick Hinks Mike Hinks was my friend for almost 35 years. I have known him as the husband of my very good friend Wyn and as a colleague and Councillor at NODA West Midlands.
Mike was a gentleman or rather a gentle man. A career in Local Government and a distinguished hobby with several operatic societies (Chesterfield Operatic Society, Derby Opera Company, Long Eaton Operatic Society, Ripley & Alfreton) and with NODA, reaching its highest office as President of the Association.
My personal memories include eating sherry trifle at 1am after a trip to London to see a show, visiting Hardwick Hall when my husband Ron and I were National Trust members and Mike and Wyn were not but I had forgotten my card and I had to pay, working on the Pro-Am Production of La Cage Aux Folles, the list goes on and on. Happy times, sad times, good times and bad times Mike never changed. Steadfast, loyal, ready to listen, to give advice and, above all, to be a true friend.
Remember Mike and if you were fortunate enough to call him a friend be glad BUT shed no tears for Mike. He will be selecting a show, managing the budget, assembling the cast of Angels for their production and be front of house awaiting the arrival of his friends.

They would also be very interested in
hearing from anyone who would like to volunteer for the role of Amateur Theatre

Costume Interpretation volunteers
needed at Chirk
Castle. Chirk Castle in
Wales is owned by the National Trust
and was built in 1310 by Sir Roger Mortimer. It is currently seeking volunteers
to act as Historical Costume Interpreters. There is currently one Guard on
daily duty and two other volunteer Guards giving time during the week and at
weekends. They would like to increase this with the help of more volunteers,
male and female, so the daily life of medieval 14th Century at the Castle can be
lived out on a daily basis through interpretation and interaction with Castle
visitors.
If anyone has time to spare, either in the week or on a
weekend and skills that they could bring, that would be great. Basic
costume and training will be provided and travel expenses will contributed to.
It’s a great experience. Please email: Andrew Humphreys at
National Trust or call Chirk Castle on: 01691 777701
